Monday marks an important holiday for the U.S. Memorial Day is a federal holiday recognized on the last Monday of May, which honors those Americans whom have died while serving in the armed forces. Many people choose to fly an American flag as a way to honor those service men and woman we’ve lost. Cities and towns often have memorial services to honor our deceased Veterans. However you choose to recognize this holiday, take some time out of your day to be grateful to those who have served and continue to serve our country.
Here are some local events going on in the Raleigh area over the Memorial Day weekend:
Garner: The Town of Garner, Garner Veterans Memorial Committee, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10225 and Garner American Legion Post 232 will have a Memorial Day observance at Lake Benson Park on Monday, May 27 at 1 p.m. Click HERE for more information.
North Carolina State Capitol: Wreath Laying at Veteran’s Memorial on Monday, May 28th, 2012 from 10 am – 1 pm. The Tar Heel Detachment of the Marine Corps League for the greater Raleigh area is sponsoring this free event which will be held on the N.C. State Capital grounds located between Salisbury and Wilmington at Edenton Street. Click HERE for more information.
Historic Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh: Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 28th, 2012 from 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM. They will honor veterans during this free event at the Field of Honor, which is patterned after Arlington Cemetery. Click HERE for more information.
