What is the meaning of Labor Day? A few fun facts…
- Labor Day, in the United States, is a holiday celebrated on the first Monday in September. It is a celebration of the American labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of workers.
- The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City.
- In 1884 the first Monday in September was selected as the holiday.

A former Regional Emerging Artist-in-Residence, Savannah-based Alex Waggoner began her residency focused on a series of paintings of landscaped outdoor spaces. Being in Raleigh prompted her to balance geometry and straight representation in a new way in her paintings that focus on the new growth of Raleigh.
